A Day in the Madden Life: Brendan, Intern

What’s your morning routine? Do you have a WFH routine?

I tend to start my mornings with breakfast in one hand and my phone in the other, either completing the days Wordle or reviewing stories from mainstream and trade publications while commuting in to help me collate the day’s media wrap report.

While the commute and the cold can be a struggle, it is always worth it when I reach the office, greet the team, and admire the cityscape.

I feel fortunate to say I don’t have a WFH routine. As an intern, I find the richest experience in learning is gained by coming into the office each day to engage with the team and leverage their wisdom for my professional development.

What does a typical day look like for you?

The most enjoyable part of my working experience has been the atypical nature of each day. I am always exposed to something new, which can be daunting but is a welcomed challenge.

More recently, I have particularly enjoyed working across the team’s social media presence, on LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter. Working across platforms to engage with clients and followers is a refreshing insight into the professional landscape.

Another exciting opportunity has been critical research of relevant outlets and businesses to identify opportunities for Madden. Scouring the web to make findings and conclusions allows me to practically apply skills I have developed in university, which is always enjoyable!

Could you talk about the latest thing you’re working on that excites you?

As we reach the conclusion of the ‘Day in the Life’ series, a number of follow up blog series have been proposed, which I am excited to continue working on alongside the team – so stay tuned!

It will be interesting to work on a new blog series from start to finish, while also shaping the creative direction, so I am looking forward to collaborating with the team, writing the drafts and see it all come together.

Beyond the blog, I am eager to continue developing Madden’s social media presence, particularly on Instagram. As a younger member of the team, I was bound to gravitate towards contemporary social media and am keen to explore how we can improve our use of these platforms.

What’s your number one rule?

Always ask questions. As Confucius said, “The man who asks a question is a fool for a minute, the man who does not ask is a fool for life.” Especially early in your career, it is incredibly important to seek clarification sooner rather than later to maximise your learnings.
